Inside, the restaurant has a gastropub layout with a large bar dominating one wall. The opposite wall has a single long, black banquette the length of the wall with a few benches, bistro tables and chairs. Behind the banquette is a wall-size mural that tells a story, and a realistic looking leafless tree in one corner that appears to come out of the scene. If you look closely, you can discern a human face – one of the characters from the mural. OB Noodle House Bar 1502 on Niagara Street features similar menu items to the Original OB Noodle House on Cable Street. Delivery is available through many ghost kitchen locations throughout Southern California.

Once in SoCal, the family started OB Doughnuts where the brothers worked growing up. Lucky for us, the brothers started OB Noodle House, an Asian fusion restaurant, in 2008, hiring friends from Point Loma High School to work the kitchen. The camaraderie among brothers and friends has resulted in very low staff turnover and epic food at this busy restaurant. OB Noodle House is a locals’ hangout, and the saying, ‘always eat where the locals eat’ definitely applies here. If you’re a fan of the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” you may have seen the episode featuring this Ocean Beach favorite.

Ramen / Udon (Soup)

Tamarindo was featured as a food truck on the show and subsequently established a restaurant in San Clemente. Mensho is the stateside outpost of the popular Tokyo-based ramen chain. Check out the Tori Paitan on a first visit and then try the many different other variations or even enjoy the noodles on their own, without soup. Another neighborhood favorite is OB Noodle’s spicy garlic wings. For this dish, they use chicken wingettes – the flat mid-section of the wing – only. They marinate the wingettes in a house recipe satay, deep fry them, transfer them to a wok seasoned with goodness, garnish with cilantro, and serve with ranch dressing.

Saigon fried rice with Chinese broccoli, beef, shrimp, Chinese sausage, egg, and assorted vegetables with chili saté sauce. Mee Heng Low Noodle House is a favorite neighborhood joint. Despite the list of specials and other menu items that include many different types of noodles, the twice cooked pork is a favorite with everyone. RakiRakhas an extensive menu and has numerous accolades for many menu items. When it comes to a bowl of noodles, choose the oxtail ramen. Tokyo-born chef and owner frequently combines new trends like ramen burgers with more traditional dishes like a steaming bowl of oxtail ramen made Tokyo-style.

OB Noodle House – Ocean Beach

The close-knit, laidback neighborhood is on the Pacific side of Point Loma peninsula. It’s characterized by its food-coops, independently owned stores, head and surf shops, sandy beaches, and lack of retail chains – which the neighborhood vigilantly resists. It’s also home to the Ocean Beach Pier, the West Coast’s longest concrete pier. At the end of Newport Avenue, the main drag, you’ll find a sandy beach and popular surf spot next to the pier.

Their most recent venture is The Holding Company, OB’s premier live music venue and bar. Other menu standouts are the Vietnamese sizzling fish and Angus beef Korean short ribs. A glass pane garage door opens onto the front patio and floods the room with light and San Diego’s fresh air. The ceiling is black with hanging Edison lights, the ductwork is copper, and behind the bar the wall is gold.

OB Noodle House is a family owned restaurant that also includes another noodle bar and a live music venue. OB Noodle House is the original and has been featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” and is a prominent part of the local community. You’ll find a variety of delicious pho bowls as well as cold vermicelli noodles, egg noodles and noodle dishes.

The restaurant has also appeared on TruTV’s “Barmageddon.” Not only is it wildly popular with the neighborhood, but it has an interesting backstory as well. The vegan ramen shop is a modern take on ramen in the newly revitalized Grand Central Market in downtown LA. Using vegetables and vegan ingredients to create a rich broth, you won’t even miss the meat in the OG ramen bowl, which is highly recommended. Featured on TruTV Show “Barmageddon”Korean style pork belly grilled to perfection. Garnished with our house made papaya salad, Sriracha aioli, and cilantro.
